Duferco completes the verticalisation of its production site in
San Zeno Naviglio in the province of Brescia with the
inauguration of a new rolling mill with a capacity of 700
thousand tonnes. An investment of 250 million euros in a
completely green plant combined with artificial intelligence
that further raises the bar for the competitiveness of the
Italian steel industry and allows the Group to launch the
challenge on the European beam market.
‘... Many Italian companies, like Duferco, believe in their
country, in their territory and in their community - said
yesterday the President of Confindustria, Carlo Bonomi, at the
    inauguration.
The heart of this system is driven by E.P.R. cardan shafts, a
company that, like Duferco, firmly believes in its land, its
roots and in the words of the President of Confindustria.

    Saarstahl
AG is doing a lot to improve its domestic
    plants.
Over the past few years, it has put a multi-million euro
investment into operation at its Völklingen rolling mill in
Nauweiler without causing a great stir.
The new continuous roughing mill cost an impressive 30 million
    euros.
The new roughing mill helps the Völklingen rolling mill to improve quality and save energy.
The new roughing mill has been in operation since March
    2016.
What does it do, what can it do better than the old blooming
    stand that it replaced?
It can produce all the cross-sections required to supply
    rolling mills 14 and 15.
This is achieved with higher productivity and further improved
    quality.
The improved guidance of the billets further reduces surface
    defects.
The new continuous roughing train saves a considerable amount
of energy compared to the old billet stand.
Seven rolling stands are connected in series.
The billets are rolled directly from one stand to the
    next.
This direct route means that production is faster than
    before.
In the new roughing train, the billets remain at the right
temperature so that the rolling process can continue without
    having to be reheated.
All stand is driven by EPR drive shafts.
In 2023 (after 7 years of operation) the first reserve cardan shafts were ordered.
Both projects were accompanied and realised by DSC Sales Consulting Hans Duengel up to and including contract negotiations.
